A Nest Full of Wonders: The Return of the Chorister Robin-chats

We’re thrilled to announce the return of our beloved Chorister Robin-Chats! This delightful pair has chosen our garden as their breeding ground once again, and we’re privileged to witness their incredible parenting journey.

A Busy Brood

Last year, these feathered acrobats successfully raised a brood, and this year, they’ve wasted no time in starting a new family. With two precious eggs nestled in their nest, both parents are working tirelessly to provide for their offspring.

A Feast for the Young

It’s truly astonishing to watch these dedicated parents as they scour our garden for food. From juicy worms and chirping crickets to elusive geckos and sneaky spiders, they bring a diverse menu to their hungry chicks. And their efficiency is simply mind-boggling! We’ve witnessed them carrying up to four different creatures at once in their beaks, a testament to their incredible skill and determination.

A Symphony of Sounds

The baby birds are growing rapidly, their appetites insatiable. As soon as they hear their parents approaching, they open their wide beaks in eager anticipation. Once the food is delivered, the parents meticulously clean their babies, removing the fecal sacs with gentle precision.

A Birdwatcher’s Paradise

Our garden has become a haven for a variety of bird species, and the Chorister Robin-Chats are undoubtedly the stars of the show. Many birdwatchers would give anything to catch a glimpse of these elusive creatures. We’re incredibly fortunate to have them as our neighbors, and we cherish every moment of observing their fascinating behavior.

A Thriving Ecosystem

Our garden is surrounded by a lush milkwood forest, which provides the perfect habitat for a diverse range of wildlife. From majestic birds of prey to elusive reptiles and mammals, this ecosystem is teeming with life. We’ve encountered Boomslangs, Slug-eater snakes, Olive snakes, Night-adders, Bushbuck, Porcupines, Honey Badgers, and even the fascinating Wahlberg’s Epauletted Fruit Bat.

A Master of Mimicry

The Chorister Robin-Chat is renowned for its remarkable mimicry skills. They can perfectly imitate the calls of numerous bird species, including the Red-chested Cuckoo, Klaas’s Cuckoo, Olive Bushshrike, Red-winged Starlings, Black-bellied Starlings, Fish Eagles, Black Sparrowhawks, and even our security alarm!

We invite you to join us on this incredible journey as we witness the growth and development of these fascinating birds. Stay tuned for more updates, stunning photos, and captivating videos.
